Solo in Kuala Lumpur: een onvergetelijke ervaring

Solo in Kuala Lumpur: an unforgettable experience

What an adventure! Four days solo in Kuala Lumpur, and what a lot I experienced. From the moment I stepped off the plane, I felt the warm, humid air of this vibrant city around me. Kuala Lumpur is a city that immediately impresses, not only with its size, but also with the energy in the air.

I decided to explore the city mostly on foot. Although the heat was challenging at times, it gave me the opportunity to explore the streets and alleys at my own pace. For longer distances I used Grab, a convenient and affordable way (app) to get from one place to another quickly.

A skyline to dream about:

One of the highlights of my stay in Kuala Lumpur was definitely the skyline. The iconic Petronas Towers and the Kuala Lumpur Tower tower high above the city and offer breathtaking views, both during the day and at night. A tip for those who want to admire the city from above: go to the Kuala Lumpur Tower in the late afternoon. As the sun slowly sets, the city is bathed in a magical light, making for an unforgettable moment.

Culture and diversity in every corner:

What makes Kuala Lumpur truly unique is its incredible mix of cultures and religions. Throughout the city you’ll find Chinese and Hindu mosques, temples and other places of worship, each with their own charm and story. From the impressive Chinese Tokong Thean Hou Temple to the colourful Sri Mahamariamman Temple, you’ll taste Malaysia’s rich history around every corner. It’s almost impossible to see it all in one trip, so it’s definitely worth picking out a few places you absolutely have to visit beforehand. Important Malaysian fact: always take your shoes off when entering a house, temple or mosque.

Flavors of the street:

And then there’s the food! Kuala Lumpur is a true paradise for foodies. Whether you want to try street food at the many stalls along the road or prefer to sit down in a cozy restaurant, the food is delicious and affordable everywhere. The smells and flavors of the city can be found on every corner, and for every budget there is something delicious to discover.
Did you know that most of the population rarely cooks at home and usually eats on the street? Food not only satisfies hunger, it also brings people together.

Stay in the city:

After a day full of impressions, I returned to my accommodation in a cozy residence with both dormitories and private rooms. I chose a private room to relax and recharge for the next day. It was the perfect balance between the liveliness of the city and a quiet place to relax.

Kuala Lumpur, a city of contrasts:

What I remember most about Kuala Lumpur is the contrast between the modern and the traditional. You walk down a street full of skyscrapers and a few minutes later you find yourself in a neighbourhood where traditional rituals are still an important part of daily life. The streets are bustling with life, with markets, street musicians and people from all cultures and backgrounds coming together. It is this mix of old and new, of ritual and modernity, that makes Kuala Lumpur so surprising.

Four days in this city felt like a journey of discovery in itself. Kuala Lumpur surprised and inspired me, and for anyone considering exploring this city solo: it is absolutely worth it! Whether you are into culture, good food, or just want to get lost in the hustle and bustle of a city that never seems to stand still, Kuala Lumpur has something for everyone.
