Solo in Rome: wandering among ancient charm and Vespas
Share
Rome is one of those cities I always want to return to. A place where you literally stumble upon history, while life rushes around you on Vespas and between espressos. As a solo traveler, I love it there: vibrant, safe, and full of charm.
Why Rome is perfect for solo travellers:
-
It's easy to get there: there are two airports (Fiumicino and Ciampino) with good connections to the city centre.
-
Public transport is well-organized, although I prefer to walk. Especially if you're staying in the city center, everything is easily walkable.
-
I used the Free Now app for a taxi, because Uber is not really established in Rome.
-
Despite the crowds, Rome feels accessible. You can easily mingle with locals and other travelers.
My favorites in Rome:
-
The Colosseum: A magical moment, every time. You feel pure history and the power of the past.
-
The Spanish Steps and the Trevi Fountain: Yes, touristy, but that doesn't make them any less special.
-
Vatican City: Visiting St. Peter's Basilica is impressive.
-
Wandering through Trastevere or the old town: Here you will find charming streets, laundry hanging outside and the smell of freshly baked pizza.
-
Food! Rome is pure enjoyment: from fresh pasta to a quick gelato at a corner. And yes, a cappuccino is allowed all day long if you're travelling solo 😉
-
I once celebrated New Year's Eve there. Beautiful, but oh, how cold it was! Still, a very special experience.
Rome in every season:
-
Spring, summer, and fall are bustling. Think: lots of tourists, warm weather, and crowded streets.
-
But... that's part of it. Rome's energy is precisely what makes it so unforgettable.
Rome is a city that embraces you as a solo traveler. You never feel alone, because everywhere you look there's life, history, warmth, and... pizza 🍕
